Thomas Garrison (Garry) Hawkins, 70, passed away at 4:25pm on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Barnes – Jewish Hospital. He was born on September 16, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Stanley and Marjorie (Graffius) Hawkins. On July 4, 1980, he married his “forever and always” Lela Peterman. They were blessed with two daughters who are proud to call him dad, Tara (Chad Tite) Berry and Kelly (Kenny) Springer. He will always be remembered and loved as Papa Hawk by his two grandsons: Gavin and Dillon Springer and his bonus granddaughter: Maddie Berry.
His career in the automotive industry included dealerships across St. Louis and the Metro East where several coworkers became lifelong friends. He will forever be remembered as Hawk at area record shows where he sold KSHE classic rock on vinyl and cd’s for the last forty years.
He is also survived by two brothers: Michael (Julie) Hawkins, David (Sally) Hawkins, a sister in law: Netta Hawkins, his brother in law: Lewis (Anita) Peterman, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Richard Hawkins, a nephew: John Hawkins, and a son in law: Brian Berry.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 12pm to 2pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
