Vivian Evelyn Barnes

Vivian Evelyn Barnes, 83, passed away at 11:35am on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 21, 1930, in Hartford, Illinois the daughter of the late Virgil and Lora (Bess) Vaughn. She married Richard Barnes on October 22, 1950, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter and son in law: Melinda and Gary Phipps of East Alton, three sons and daughters in law: Dennis and Janet Barnes of Cottage Hills, Mark and Deanna Barnes of Cottage Hills, Ronald and Debbie Barnes of Bethalto, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a dear cousin: Celesta McDonough of Hartford, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A homemaker, she enjoyed playing cards, crafts, and camping in Texas every year. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brother and one sister. In celebration of her life, memorial visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorial services will be held at 10am on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the funeral home. Pastor Martin Schultz will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or to BJC Hospice.
