Wayne Hunt, Sr.

Wayne Hunt, Sr., 78, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1945, in Carlinville, Illinois, the son of the late Charles Chester and Patience Emma (Granger) Hunt. He married the former Ramona Arview on May 31, 1968, in Wood River, she precedes him in death in October of 2016. Survivors include two daughters: Carla (Robert Fox) Urban of Godfrey, Carrie (Patrick) Lyerla of Worden, a son: Wayne (Kelly) Hunt, Jr. of Litchfield, five grandchildren: Jordan (Alexis Bradley) Bruns, Tyler Urban, Tanner (Taylor Girth) Urban, Alex Chesney, Lauren Lyerla, a brother: Charles (Patricia) Hunt II of Bethalto, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.


Wayne worked in the molding department and later worked in the lab at Owens -Illinois Glass Works. He then was a self-employed traveling master barber. He loved horse racing, watching the cooking channel, and listening to Christmas music all year round. He enjoyed visiting his various clubs around town in his cowboy boots. He was a member of the East Alton American Legion, the Eagles Aerie #254 in Alton, the KC’s, and was formerly the Commander at the Wood River VFW Post 2859 for seven years.


In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister: Gloria Sue Kruckeberg and a brother: Milton Eugene Hunt.


In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4pm until time of services at 6pm on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.  Full military will be conducted by the Ritual Team of VFW Post 1308 of Alton.  Private inurnment will be at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.


Memorials are suggested to the Wood River VFW Post 2859 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
