Wilbur C. Dykeman, 75, passed away at 3:35pm on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 1, 1938, in Alton, Illinois the son of the late George S. and Cleavy P. (Landrum) Dykeman. He married the former Susan Ringering on June 8, 1963, in Alton and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter: Elizabeth "Betsy" Dykeman of St. Louis, two sons and daughters in law: G. Michael and Tammy Dykeman of Alton, Dr. Andrew and Jennifer Dykeman of St. Louis, two grandchildren: Stephanie Dykeman of St. Louis, Jeremy Dykeman of Ankeny, Iowa, two sisters: Wilma Johnson of California, Barbara Swain of Alton. He was formerly employed at Owens - Illinois machine shop as a machinist for over 35 years. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them He attended the First Baptist Church of Wood River. He was a member of the "Over the Hill Gang" at Upper Alton Baptist Church. He was a volunteer at Alton Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed fly fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: George Jr. "Red", Charles "Chas", Melba, Cleveland "Bud", Paul, Nancy, Rita, and Gordon. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10am until time of funeral services at 1pm on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. His grandson Jeremy Dykeman will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Services Plus, the 5A's, or to the First Baptist Church of Wood River and will be accepted at the funeral home.
