Alton: William “Bill” Harpole, 75, passed away at 12:45am on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at his residence. He was born on October 2, 1941, in Alton, the son of the late William K. and Ruby (Sailor) Harpole. He married the former Patricia “Pat” Whelan on March 5, 1960, in Alton and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2015. Survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Michael and Jenny Harpole of Brighton, Jack and Juli Harpole of Alton, two daughters and sons in law: Tamara and Mark Gorman of Alton, Wendy and Chris Summers of Alton, ten grandchildren: Shane, Josie, Samantha, Sumer, Keenan, Jenna, Sarah, Moriah, Patrick, Ken, two great grandchildren: Leia, Mack, and an expectant great grandson: Finn, and one sister and brother in law: Pauline Lang of Florida. Bill was employed at Illinois Power as a boiler operator prior to his retirement in 2002. He had many lifelong friends that were dear to his heart. He loved having fish fry’s, backyard get together’s, and camping at his favorite campground, Sam A. Baker State Park. He loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals fan. Through the years, Bill was on many bowling leagues and he was an avid pool player. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #254, the Alton Moose Lodge 951, and the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 A.F. & A.M. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother: Jack, and one sister: Cathy. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 10am until time of funeral services at 12pm on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Private burial will be at Milton Cemetery in Alton. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
