William G. “Bill” Sherman

East Alton: William G. “Bill” Sherman, 64, passed away on Friday evening, March 9, 2018, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on March 22, 1953, in Eustis, Florida, the son of the late William and Ottilia (Wickenhauser) Sherman. He married the former Evelyn Luffman on October 19, 1984, in Edwardsville, and she survives. Other survivors include a step – daughter: Donna LeTempt of East Alton, a grandson: Aaron Harrison of East Alton, two sisters and a brother in law: Rosalie and Gary Boyd of Roxana, Marilyn Chaney of Alton, three brothers and two sisters in law: Robert Chaney of Orange City, Florida, Mike and Cindy Chaney of Alton, Tom and Elizabeth Chaney of Alton, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Bill was formerly employed as a sheer operator and later as a baghouse operator at Olin Brass for over thirty – five years prior to his retirement. He loved building automatic transmissions, photography, music, riding his scooter, and camping. He was a veteran of the United Stated Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: James Chaney and Joseph Sherman. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Memorials are suggested to the Riverbend Humane Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
